Art for Art's Sake?

Should art be judged on its aesthetic qualities and not on its social, political, or moral values? Or are you more in the 'I know what I like camp?
Who cares?
Whatever your approach to art we attempt to share each others enjoyment of art and explore art throughout history, culture and politics. And Yes aesthetics may also come into it.
Do I need to be an expert?
Definitely not, we are about sharing a 'down to earth' appreciation of different forms of art and artists.
What format do meetings take?
We collectively decide on a topic to be discussed at the next meeting. Members then research the subject and bring the results of their investigations back to the group for discussion.
Anything else?
We hope from time to time to arrange visits to exhibitions, galleries or museums.
Meets where? The Old Forge, Kirkby Stephen.
Meets when? Third Friday of the month at 1.30 p.m.
Cost? Free to u3a members.
We aren't charged for the hire of the room but members are encouraged to buy refreshments as a courtesy acknowledging the generosity of the owners.
