Botany and Wildflowers

Crazy for plants & wild about flowers.

Why study Botany?

At its most basic botany is the study of plants. Studying how plants grow, pollinate and compete improves our understanding of their importance to us. How they help shape our environment, our economy and influence biodiversity.

And Wildflowers?

There is a good deal of pleasure in being able to identify the plants and flowers that grow within our local environment.

What do we do?

At each session we choose a topic for discussion at the following session. Individually members may carry out their own research on the topic and report back at the next session. Or sometimes a person may elect to research a topic and present their findings at a subsequent session.

Anything else?

We hope when the seasons and weather allows to be able to carry out some field studies.

A member of the group has signed up to the National Plant Monitoring Scheme (NPMS) and we will be surveying a site near Ravenstonedale together.
